Brief :

Our client is a market leading niche specialist firm, with an excellent reputation that operates nationally supplying services to the utility sector with a turnover in excess of £250m, employing over 1000 people. The business has grown significantly over the last three years and has further substantial growth plans in the near future. They require a further Regional Commercial Director to join their management team and aid the growth through continuous operational and commercial improvements designed to maintain their market leading status with clients.

Job Specification :

Reporting directly into the Group Commercial Director you will be a member of the group management team. Also as a member of the Regional Board, working alongside and in partnership with the Regional Operations and Design Directors you will have the following key responsibilities:

  • Leading and developing a team of around 30 staff with direct responsibility for managing 3 or 4 Commercial Managers
  • Responsible for the profitable delivery of around £100m annual project revenue supporting a defined portfolio of customers including at least one utility company
  • Development and management of processes, procedures and controls to ensure the commercial team works effectively and efficiently in partnership with the operational and design teams in the delivery of profitable value added projects to clients
  • Identification of innovative solutions that add value to clients
  • Developing a close working relationship with clients to fully understand their requirements and constraints and ensure all “compensation events” are effectively managed and communicated so that additional work or costs are recovered without damaging client relationships

Candidate Specification :

The successful candidate with have a minimum of 10 but more likely around 15 years commercial QS experience of delivering projects who is still upwardly mobile in their career. This is a long term appointment and the role requires an IT literate and change management focussed person with a commercial mind, gravitas and strong influencing skills. The successful candidate will be a driven individual with a first class career track record to date and a collaborative and down to earth leadership style. Whilst our client is open on sector experience they are ideally looking for someone who has been involved with design and build rather than a pure commercial contract specialist.
