Brief :

Our client is a market leading niche specialist firm that operates nationally supplying services to the utility sector with a turnover of around £250m, employing over 1000 people. Being a large statutory entity in its own right, autonomously run, and part of a bigger group the business has grown consistently and substantially through organic growth. They require a forward thinking Finance Director to join the management team and aid their development through continuous operational and commercial improvements designed to maintain their market leading status with clients.

Job Specification :

Reporting directly into the Chief Executive Officer and working as a member of the board and wider management team you will have the following key responsibilities:

  • Leading and managing a large integrated Finance and IT team with the support of two key direct reports the Head of Finance & the Head of IT
  • All finance & IT matters including banking, capital, tax, treasury activities, compliance, statutory accounts, financial planning, pensions, shareholder management, due diligence and credit control to ensure that financial resources are managed as effectively as possible
  • Lead and manage a number of projects including the implementation and optimisation of a new ERP system
  • Commercially input into driving business performance improvement in margin growth, through effective cost control and enhancing customer and contract profitability.
  • Ensure Directors and managers are delivering on their profit & loss and budgetary responsibilities and manage and drive the budgeting, forecasting and planning processes.
  • Identify and respond to external market factors and opportunities affecting business performance to ensure sustainable profitable growth
  • Identify and manage all potential business risks
  • Other sundry financial analysis projects, capital appraisals & strategic analysis as and when required

Candidate Specification :

This is a long term appointment and the role requires an IT literate qualified accountant with a commercial mind, gravitas and strong influencing skills. The successful candidate will be a driven individual with a first class career track record to date and a collaborative and down to earth leadership style. As well as an innate commercial ability, a good eye for detail and the ability discharge company secretary duties are required. Someone with a track record of either initiating continuous improvements, ERP implementation experience, or a general interest in how IT developments can aid a service offering to clients in a B2B environment will be at an advantage.
